Novak Djokovic: Back injury is not serious
Novak Djokovic says the back muscle injury that forced him to quit his Davis Cup match is not serious but requires rest.
He tried to play through the pain Sunday against Juan Martin del Potro in the semifinals. But the top-ranked Serb stopped during the second set, sending Argentina to the Davis Cup final against Spain.
“Not as serious as we have thought,” Djokovic said Monday. “It’s a partial rupture of a back muscle that deserves rest.”
Djokovic skipped Friday’s opening singles because of lingering back problems following his victory over Rafael Nadal in the U.S. Open final. But after losing the opening set 7-6 (5) against Del Potro, Djokovic fell from pain during the third game of the second set.
Djokovic said he may have to skip his next tournaments in China next month — the Shanghai Masters and China Open in Beijing.
“I hope I will recover by then,” Djokovic said. “Anyway, I won’t risk the worsening of the injury and that’s why it is hard to predict for how long I will rest.”
Djokovic said he has never had this kind of back problem.
“I carried the injury since the U.S. Open,” Djokovic said. “It gradually got worse through the tournament, and I felt sharp pain in the finals.”
“Luckily for me, I managed to hold on and to survive that fourth set and win the tournament,” Djokovic added. “I came here quite late, and I could not get ready.”
Djokovic beat Nadal 6-2, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-1 in the U.S. Open final for his sixth consecutive win over the Spaniard, including the Wimbledon final, and his third major title this season.
He entered the Davis Cup weekend with a 64-2 record. One of those losses came when he quit with a sore shoulder against Andy Murray in the Cincinnati final last month. Djokovic also lost to Roger Federer in the French Open semifinals.
Djokovic reportedly is planning to marry longtime girlfriend Jelena Ristic before the new season starts.

Minister condemns spate of child murders
A recent spate of child murder cases in South Africa was met with outrage by the minister of women, children and people with disabilities on Thursday.
“The barbaric actions of child abusers and murderers have no place in our democratic society,” said Lulu Xingwana in a statement.
She said the net was closing on perpetrators of child abuse, with her department working closely with law enforcement agencies.
Xingwana was satisfied with the police’s reintroduction of the family violence, child protection and sexual offences units.
“Child murderers will have no place to hide as more and more of them will continue to face the full might of the law,” she said.
On Wednesday morning, schoolgirl Louise de Waal was kidnapped at gun-point as she walked to school in Roodepoort, Gauteng.
A badly burnt body – widely believed to be De Waal’s – was found on a farm in Magaliesburg later in the day.
Last Friday, a three-year-old boy’s butchered body was found stuffed into a suitcase in his next-door neighbour’s house at Gugulethu in the Western Cape.

The younger girl died from her injuries. Police said they could not rule out the possibility that the girls had been raped.

Do you think the technology we use to listen to music has transcended the importance of the music itself for most consumers?I wouldn’t say it’s transcended it, but it’s definitely a sign of the times. Look: we like cool shit in America. We’ve all got the iPhone, the iPad and the iPod. Somehow my son is making calls from his iPod touch, I can’t even keep up with it. (laughs) I don’t have a problem with how consumed we are in our personal technologies, but I do have a problem with the way music sounds that way. It sounds shitty, because it’s compressed.
Do you think people notice the compromised listening experience?Well, it’s like a seedless orange. If that’s all you’ve ever eaten, you won’t know how the real thing tastes. Which is a shame. Kids today won’t know how powerful music can sound from MP3s alone unless they go out of their way to experience it. Plus, it’s scary how disposable our libraries have become. My buddy just gave me an iPad with 30,000 songs on it, and I appreciate that gift, but the Al Green library suddenly doesn’t play anymore. At Thanksgiving, I was like, “Yo, fire up Al,” and my friend said, “Oh, Al don’t work no more, baby.” Just like that. (laughs)
How would you like to see the digital model improve, at least aesthetically?I think what I’m doing with my new headphone series, Chambers, is actually a step in the right direction. I wanted the iPod generation to still enjoy a strong sound, and I wanted it to feel special and unique and stylish. I put a lot of thought into making that happen. Again, if it’s not cool, I’m not interested. And I think that’s how everyone thinks now. These are meant to make digital sound great, but if you happen to listen to vinyl with these – always the best! – you might actually orgasm.

Now, the midsole. Both are identical in color and design. The upper is also the same due to the fact that the 6 Rings uses the same upper that is featured on the Retro 11. Both shoes use the classic striped pattern upper. Obviously, the colorway on both shoes is the same. Both shoes are identical. Right?
